“Had an amazing time exploring all the trails, hiking, biking and marveling at the natural beauty Alaska offers.”

Nestled in two major river valleys in Southcentral Alaska, the Chugiak/Eagle River area is surrounded by beautiful Alaska wilderness. It is a place of proximity to an urban area, as well as to the experience of the pristine Alaskan wilderness.

The community is known statewide as the gateway to Chugach State Park, 495 thousand acres of rugged untouched terrain, and home to brown and black bear, moose, wolves, wolverine, lynx, fox, porcupine, beaver, spawning salmon, and a wide variety of birds including the majestic Bald Eagle.

Downtown Eagle River and business areas in Chugiak/ Peters Creek have a variety of shops providing all necessary amenities. Most all goods and services are available locally but if you can't find that "special something," the downtown area of Anchorage is located approximately 12 miles to the south. The community is connected with Anchorage via a modern fully lit six lane highway which traverses natural and scenic lands.

Outdoor recreational activities abound in the Chugiak/Eagle River area. Extensive State and Municipal parklands offer excellent hiking, climbing (including glacier climbing), canoeing, rafting, fishing, camping, picnicking, swimming, and kayaking opportunities. There are backcountry bike trails available for the biking enthusiast and these trails double as cross country ski trails during the winter months. Sled dog training trails are available and certain parkland has been designated for use by all-terrain vehicles and snowmachines; and, just 15 minutes away from downtown Eagle River is Alpenglow at Arctic Valley, a challenging downhill skiing facility.

“Thank you for all the good information, places to eat and activities and maps to get around. Everything we could ask for in a place to stay!”
